Soil Insight
Optimal soil water content, often managed via irrigation, is one of the primary drivers of crop yields. Current irrigation practices are depleting aquifers and lowering flow rates for downstream river users. Soil Insight provides growers with soil water content values for their fields, allowing for improved irrigation efficiency and lower water use.

Traffic Hackers
The time difference between free-flow speeds and a traffic jam can sometimes be measured in minutes. Traffic Hackers set out to predict roadway speeeds, not only finding daily rush hour slowdowns, but also determining when a non-rush hour traffic jam, such as a car accident, would end.

Real-time Environmental Data Exploration
Hypoxia in estuaries can cause large declines in marine life and result in billions in economic losses. The Real-Time Environmental Data Exploration tool, developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), was created to show aquatic environmental conditions in Corpus Christi Bay, Texas, allowing stakeholders to better manage hypoxic conditions.

Shake Table Visualization
Learning how various structures behaved in past earthquakes can yield new insights. To this endI prepared and processed data from the January 17, 1994 Northridge earthquake as part of this collaborative visualization project at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC).
Shaded Model: The same model, with textures applied, shows some of the earthquake data as colored spheres.
